BIOGRAPHY
Painter and printmaker, BFA Syracuse University, MAT Bridgewater; MFA candidate, MassArt, extensive independent study and graduate work locally and abroad. Studied printmaking with Tetsuo Ochikubo, George Nama, Constance Jacobson, Michael Mazur, Ron Pokrasso,  Robert Siegelman, Joel Janowitz and Peik Larsen; studied painting with Ron Rizzi, Lois Griffel, Rosalie Nadeau, Don Stone, Skip Whitcomb, Don Demers, Joe McGurl and Marjorie Portnow.
Recent work includes a series of site-specific plein air oil paintings, multiple-plate monoprints and encaustic wall pieces embracing found detritus of eroding cliffs along the ocean edges. My images are generated from direct observation in nature, hiking the cliffs with backpack and easel, documenting shifting shadows and tides, and the eroding coastal environment.
I feel compelled to record these sites so that in the future they will offer a memory of what once was there. The cliffs are also a metaphor of the human struggle to survive and endure the difficulties of life. The vulnerable edges of the cliffs are bitten into by the hungry wind and waves, yet they cling to life as long as they can, a symbol of primordial strength.
Joyce has painted en plein air since 1987, when she had the opportunity to stay in the Peaked Hills Trust dune shack for a week, and experienced the fragility and beauty of coastal Cape Cod from dawn to dusk. She continues that experience with annual stays at the Sladeville cabins with the 21 in Truro painting group, yearly trips to Martha’s Vineyard, independent painting projects, and weekly painting trips with Plein Air Painters of Cape Cod. Painting trips to France, Italy, Germany, Greece, Hawaii and CA have provided further opportunities to expand her vision. Recent Boston corporate commissions include  Pfizer Inc., Bowditch & Dewey, Beth Israel/Deaconess Hospital.
Zavorskas has taught printmaking for 33 years and continues to teach in her Orleans studio as well as regional art centers, including Copley Society Summer Workshops, Master Printmaker at Contemporary Artists Center in North Adams, MA, assistant to Michael Mazur at Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, printmaking instructor at Castle Hill Center for the Arts in Truro and Printmaking instructor at Simmons College, Cape Cod Community College and Bridgewater State College.  She exhibits with the Boston Printmakers, Monotype Guild of New England, and Printmakers of Cape Cod, as well as regional and national juried exhibitions, and 21 in Truro exhibitions .  She has earned numerous awards and honors and received the Adrian Tinsley Award for Excellence in the Arts from Bridgewater State College in April 2005, and attained Copley Artist status in August 2005.
