Philip Bergson

BIOGRAPHY
Born in Washington, D.C. in 1947, I have spent my childhood summers on Cape Cod and have lived in Orleans year round for 37 years. Cape light and scenery are an integral part of my awareness of life.
A graduate of Harvard College, I have studied with nationally acclaimed artists Steve Allrich, Charles Sovek, and Don Demers. My enthusiasm for plein air painting has also been inspired by the works of Trevor Chamberlain, Edward Seago, Edward Wesson and David J. Curtis.
As a strong advocate of working on site, in all kinds of weather, my approach to oil painting is most challenging, dealing quickly with a fleeting light and ever changing atmosphere. I strive to capture the simple, everyday images that I find visually fascinating, using a combination of brush, palette knife and occasional finger here and there!

In my first competition, I received a Second Place in oils from the Creative Arts Center of Chatham and over the past several years my work has been fortunate to be recognized with a First Place in the All Cape Art Show, Second Place in the Leo Diehl Show and numerous Honorable Mentions.
